what is to "slave" a stepper motor?

In my configuration, each motor (X,Y,Z) has its own individual board operating the step and dir from the parallel port. However, my initial goal was to build a hot wire cnc cutter. Now that I want to do it, I read that both X and Y axis operate with two motors each. It is also referred as "one of the motors is slaved".

how to square X Y with mach3

Mach is configured so that the A axis is slaved to the X axis. However, when homing I do NOT have the checkbox checked that says "home slave with master axis". This allows each side of the gantry to find its own prox sensor independently and then after the homing routine the slave becomes a slave of X.

Newbie How to swich X and Y axis in Mach3

It sounds like you can just switch the cables. Plug the X cable into the Y socket, and the Y cable into the X socket. Any moves down what used to be the X direction will now go down the Y direction and the old Y direction will become the new X direction. You'll have to remember that when laying out a new flat part, but the 4th-axis code …

How to Slave an Axis in Mach3 Mill

Mach3 makes slaving an axis really easy. As in the screen shot below, click Config and then Slave Axis. This drings up a box, as below. A couple of other things to make it ...

Mach 4 is the newest solution in this category, and has by far the smallest market share. It's almost a start over from scratch rewrite of Mach 3. The developers claim it shares less than 1% of Mach 3's code. It's quite a bit more expensive, but in theory, should be better. From my perspective, the jury is still out–not enough market ...
